 | Narrow Land, Calm Sea's
|
Our largest metropolis, "Auckland", is situated
on the narrow lands that separate the city's unique harbour playgrounds. The Waitemata
Harbour, on the east with its golden sands and its Pohutukawa lined beaches to the
wild rugged West Coast at the outlet of the Manukau Harbour. |
 | City of Sails

The Port of Auckland, present home of the America's Cup, opens out to
the Hauraki Gulf, where many Islands and beaches form sanctuaries to the Wildlife of this
Historic Volcanic area. Rangitoto Island, a prime example, forms a backdrop to the views
found from dormant volcanoes like Mt Eden in the centre of Auckland City. |

 | One tree on a Hill

One Tree Hill, or Maungakiekie, is one such Volcano that in days gone by
formed one of the finest Pa Sites in New Zealand. Not only the magnitude of the Fortified
Pa can be seen, but now, in modern days sheep and cattle roam with visitors to enjoy the
magnificent views of both East and West Auckland Harbours. |
 | Relax in History
|
At the foot of One Tree Hill lies the historic Cornwall
Park. Given to the City by Mayor Sir John Logan Campbell in 1901. One can relax in the
Tearooms overlooking Acacia Cottage, built in 1841 by Sir John Logan Campbell and business
partner William Brown it is the oldest wooden home in Auckland. |

 | Coastal Views.

A pleasant spot to view the Hauraki Gulf is from the Michael Joseph
Savage memorial Park. Views of Rangitoto's triple peaks, Auckland harbour bridge and city
buildings tower over the yachts and launches anchored in the mariners bellow. |
 | Histories Domain

In days gone by the garrison band serenaded Victorian
families as they strolled among the peacocks. The winter Gardens with Tropical
and Cool Houses provide for those who appreciate the beauty of the garden, yet on Domain
Hill or Pukekawa, " sour hill", stands a memorial to those who gave their all
for the freedom of today. History all revealed in the airy chambers of the Auckland War
Memorial Museum. |
