 | Treeless
Pancake
|
Except for the
little river, the Avon, the land was seen as flat as a pancake, treeless and
featureless by C W Richmond when he viewed the plains from the Bridle Path
in 1857. Enoch Barker, a horticulturalist, was engaged to make good and so
Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens flourished. |
 | Spanish
Style
|
The New Regent
Street, built after the removal of a great Colosseum, came a Spanish
influence. Where this quant area provides an array of Restaurants and
boutique shops. Well worth a stop off from your trip around the city
by Tram. |

 | Leisure Time
|
Leisure in the
Square playing Chess or shopping at the Market on market days is all part of
the Christchurch Culture. Like the many Art Galleries and Museums
in the old style buildings of Brick and Stone, Christchurch is more English
than the English. |
 | To Adventure
|
There is more
than the tranquil Avon River, Canterbury offers a place for adventure.
Jet Boating the Waimakariri and The Rakaia River, Horse trekking
the sandy Beaches of the Pacific Ocean or the Forest Trails and High Country
Tracks. White Water Rafting on the Rangitata River or taking a Helicopter
Ride to the Scenic Southern Alps. |
