Treeless Pancake

Except for the little river, the Avon, the land was seen as flat as a pancake, treeless and featureless by C W Richmond when he viewed the plains from the Bridle Path in 1857. Enoch Barker, a horticulturalist, was engaged to make good and so Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens flourished.

Spanish Style

The New Regent Street, built after the removal of a great Colosseum, came  a Spanish influence. Where this quant area provides an array of Restaurants and boutique shops.  Well worth a stop off from your trip around the city by Tram.

Leisure Time

Leisure in the Square playing Chess or shopping at the Market on market days is all part of the Christchurch Culture.  Like the many Art Galleries and Museums  in the old style buildings of Brick and Stone, Christchurch is more English than the English.

To Adventure

There is more than the tranquil Avon River, Canterbury offers  a place for adventure. Jet Boating the Waimakariri and The Rakaia River,   Horse trekking the sandy Beaches of the Pacific Ocean or the Forest Trails and High Country Tracks. White Water Rafting on the Rangitata River or taking a Helicopter Ride to the Scenic Southern Alps.

Visit the Cathedral Square Information centre to plan your days activities from Fishing off Akaroa on Banks Peninsula to Skiing on Mount Cook from Twizel. Not to mention the worlds best Antarctic Attractions and a Gondola Ride to the summit of Port Hills.
