A birds eye view.

Whale Watching, possibly the main stay of this area, can be done by charter boat, but what better way to see these  magnificent large mammals than to have a birds eye view from a Helicopter. Kaikoura Helicopters, World of Whales, can offer you this unique opportunity.

Sea Adventures

The geography of the area lends itself to many out door activities. New Zealand Sea Adventures,  the ultimate in experiences, offer a swim with the seals and Dolphins. From Sea Kayaking, Adventure Diving to Fishing, this area has much to offer.

Woolly Show

On your way to the Seal Colony you will find a show that has the true New Zealand Farming Experience. The early settlers soon cleared the lands and The Point Farm on the peninsula still operates the wool shed to day.  The Sheep Shearing show is run daily and offers a hands on experience at feeding the Drysdale Sheep.

A Crafty Lot

Many of the locals spend lots of hours producing high quality crafts in all shapes and forms. On your travels in the area you will pass many such places. A visit to the Sealside Gallery, formed in 1988 as a cooperative of local artists and crafts persons, has most of the local creations.

Land Lovers

If you have the time to spend, try one of the many on land activities, like Horse trekking with Fyffe View Horse Treks through farmlands and native bush with spectacular views of mountains and sea. Quad Motorcycle Rides are also available or you could just take a Guided tramping trip to the top of Mt Fyffe.

Wine Tours & Restaurants

At Kaikoura Wines you can take a tour of the vineyards and go down into the under ground wine cellar. Like many of the Marlborough Wineries there is tasting, so stay and have a picnic with magnificent views of the Kaikoura Coast.

Really Down Under

Not far from the Kaikoura Winery is the Maori Leap Cave where limestone stalactites and stalagmites, formed millions of years ago by the might of the sea can be seen. Tours are run Daily and information is available from the Caves Restaurant.
