competition, Masterton is the commercial centre of the Wairarapa, on the east
coast of the North Island, New Zealand. A rural, family retreat, with Adventures for all

| Parks and Lakes
|
The Queen Elizabeth Park offers a peaceful corner to the bustle of this
rural town. Family fun in the playgrounds and gardens. Children can explore natures
wonders in the Aviary and Deer Park or just pass away the hours on slides and ropes.
Henley Lake, a short drive away, is a recreational lake created in 1988 as a water
sports centre for Masterton. Ideal for windsurfing, jet-skiing, dragon boat racing,
model yacht sailing and even fishing.

| Lighthouse and Sand
|
One of the most scenic reserves close by, can be found only an
hours drive away. Castlepoint offers sea and sand to surf, swim or fish. Taking a walk to
the lighthouse for panoramic views of the Wairarapa coast is a must, where you can also
explore a Sea Cave and the 162m Castle Rock. |
| East Coast Fish
|
Fishing Charters, like Legionaire Fishing Charters, offer the
east coast fishing experience. Suited for groups and with accommodation available, your
activities would not be complete without some fresh, New Zealand Fish. Twin jet powered,
and beach launchings, make this a real adventure. |

| Historic Times
|
The first explorers visited this area in the early 1840's and within
four years the Sheep arrived. In the 1870's the town then became the Wairarapa Centre. Now
in the year 2000's some of the history is preserved in many of the local museums like the
Pioneer Museum and the Pointon Collection. |
| Wine and Dine
|
Taking a drive around the Rural area will not only reveal
the Farming culture but some interesting Vineyards and Restaurants. Some small units offer
a great taste in wines, like the Loopline Vineyards just north of the town. |

| Riversdale Resort
|
A resort, on the coast, with a long sandy Beach offers a place for
swimming, surfing, Cray fishing and diving for paua, a local seafood. Surf patrolled over
the summer months with a 9 hole golf course, tennis courts and shops.
A peaceful canoe trip on the Whareama River offers the would be
explorer, intriguing history and even an 8000 year old fossil forest. |
