ship, is all part of Picton's history. Where Sailing,
paddling or motoring around this Maritime Wonderland can lead you to many private beaches and coves.
Maybe relax on your own Island, observe the wildlife or try your hand at fishing.

Captain James Cook found this haven, a very snug cove, in 1770 which became his
base for exploration of the pacific.
Charters like the Beach Combers, run
tours to Ship Cove and the
famous Mail Boat Cruises, being the only link to those living in the sounds.

The beauty of the Marlborough Sounds is not only the magnificent scenery but the opportunity to
view nature in a predator free environment.
Seals bask in the sun, Robins, Bellbirds, pigeons,
blue penguins and many more all find safe haven
on the many Islands like Motuara. With the conservation on Motuara Island, birdwatcher's
may be rewarded with sites of South Island Saddlebacks,
Okarito Brown Kiwi and even the Maud Island Frog.
